Vegan Bodybuilding

I just finished reading a short article basically laughing at the idea of vegan bodybuilding. Why do meat eaters think us vegans can't put on muscle just because we don't eat flesh from dead animals? If that were true, we'd all be walking skeletons. When I read articles like that, it just reminds me what an ignorant world we live in! I thought I'd include this link to a great site, Vegan Bodybuilding.

Another Great Book

I've just finished reading Skinny Bitch and LOVED IT!!! I enjoyed it so much I've started reading it a second time. I recommend this book to everyone. I'm not very good at writing book reviews so I'm just going to say it's great and everyone, vegan or non-vegan, should read it.

WE HAD A VISITOR!

We had a visitor to our neighborhood the other day. Once we saw him, or maybe her, we grabbed our cameras and went chasing after it. Out here bears our so common and a lot of them are so used to people that you can get pretty close to them without having to worry.

We're Finally Done

Well we're finally finished! We've managed to build skirting around our trailer. It wasn't easy and it definitely wasn't fun so I'm glad we're done! Now we can finally enjoy our weekends and have fun instead of working outside in the heat.

As you can see it's been a while since I've posted anything. Things have been a little hectic for Sean and I. In April we found out our landlord didn't want to renew our lease which meant we had to be out by the end of May. Well, living in a small town we weren't left with a lot of options. We placed our own adds in the local paper looking for something to rent, talked to everyone we knew, and searched every paper but still couldn't find anything. Things weren't looking good. I was getting ready to live out of a tent at that point. Then one thursday when a new paper came out (we get one every week) and we still didn't see anything available the idea of buying an rv popped into our heads. My sister did it for a few years so why couldn't we. The following Friday and Saturday we spent our time searching the internet for trailers. By Sunday we had left a down payment on a 2007 Cherokee 305L fifth wheeler.
Since then we've spent every waking minute getting ready for this move. As we both work full time we're not left with a lot of time for anything else. We still have to finish the plumbing, leveling it the trailer, making proper supports, skirting the bottom, and of course planting my garden. We have one week left before we move in and we still have to finish clearing out and cleaning our apartment. Wish us luck!

Vegan Freak

I finally received my copy of Vegan Freak today. I haven’t read much yet but so far I love it. For awhile I’ve been trying to sum up in one sentence why I became a vegan. One line in this book summed it up rather nicely by saying, “the death of animals for pure enjoyment is wrong”. It makes me think of all the non-vegans who might hear that and say, “I certainly don’t enjoy that! That's a horrible thing to say” but I’m sure they enjoyed the burger they ate last night or the ice cream they had for dessert. Anyway, I won’t start ranting about this now. I think I’m going to enjoy reading the rest of this book.

Whole Foods Market

My husband and I were lucky enough to visit the Whole Foods Market in Vancouver, BC. I have never gone to such a nice grocery store! There was so much selection for vegan and cruelty free products. I want to live there! I even found soy protein. I didn't know there was even such thing as soy protein. I bought a small container to try it and it was good, just a little runny. I also tried vegan mozzarella which I wouldn't recommend. I'm not quite sure how to explain vegan mozzarella except that it's just weird. I can't wait until I can go back. Too bad I live 2 1/2 hours aways. I definitely recommend this store to everyone.

When decided to become vegan I did some extra research on the dairy industry. Not only was I shocked by the cruelty that many people don't know about, but I'm also so grossed out by the thought of drinking milk or using it in any kind of food. It would be more natural to drink human breast milk. Atleast it would be from the same species, but even that would still be gross. If you were to offer someone milk from you dog or cat for their coffee they'd be repulsed. Yet offer them cow or goat milk and they're ok with it. Whats the difference? I can't believe I used to drink milk!

Toothpaste!!!

I was having trouble finding toothpaste that wasn't made by a company that tests on animals. My mom suggested making my own toothpaste so I did! I used 3 parts baking soda (the cleanser and sweetener) with one part salt (the abrasive). I then added a touch of vegetable based glycerin (3 tsp for every one cup of powder) and a little water and vuala, toothpaste. I didn't have anything in my house to flavour it (peppermint, etc) except coconut extract so I used that. I smells soooo yummy but tastes terrible. I've never put something so salty in my mouth before. My mom keeps telling me you get used to the flavour but so far I don't believe her (sorry Mom). But its either have a salty flavoured mouth that smells like coconuts, or have fuzzy teeth and gross morning breath for the rest of my life. I think I'll go with the salty coconut.
